Escapee soon captured
was back in a jail cell last night.
The 28-year-old was caught at 6.10 p.m. in the bus stop at the Ice Queen Restaurant after escaping from the station area around 4.45 p.m.
Hypolite, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire, was originally described by Police bulletins as a "dangerous individual''.
He was described as clad only in a pair of blue jeans and a dark jacket, and was not wearing a shirt or shoes.
Mr. Hypolite was caught after a tip from a member of the public.
On Monday, Hypolite was fined $450 for two traffic offences and also told to pay $1,000 in fines dating back to January 24.
Magistrate Edward King ordered that Hypolite be held until the fines were paid.
Some time last year Hypolite was fined $1,000 for not having third party insurance, of which only $400 was paid before he was arrested on a warrant over the weekend.
He also had to pay $300 for failing to stop at a sign and $100 for not having a valid driver's licence.
A total of 64 days in default prison time was handed down.
For speeding at 70 kph on North Shore Road on January 10 he was fined $350 or face 42 days in prison in default.
And for again not having a valid driver's licence, Hypolite was fined $100.
These fines are to be paid by April 28.
A clearly shocked Hypolite stood in disbelief as Mr. King ordered him into custody for the outstanding fines.
It is not known whether Hypolite will face new charges for the escape.
