Jacqueline MacLellan, Jill Virgil Smith, Alison Purvey, Peter Pearman and Andrew Kain donned their wigs and robes and were called to the Bermuda Bar on Friday.

Mrs. MacLellan, who was called to the Ontario Bar in 1991, will pursue a career in Bermuda in the trust department of Appleby, Spurling and Kempe while her colleague Mrs. Virgil Smith will practise law in the company department of the firm.

Mr. Pearman, a third generation lawyer who plans to specialise in business at Conyers, Dill and Pearman, was introduced by his father James Pearman.

Ms Purvey, whose concern for the environment was noted during the ceremony, will also hang her wig and robe at Conyers, Dill and Pearman after stints with two other law firms and the Bank of Butterfield.

Canadian Mr. Kain, already a member of the Upper Canada Bar, added the right to plead in Bermuda to his legal honours.

Among his legal achievements, Mr. Kain, who will work for a trade management company, assisted with the writing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms -- part of the Canadian Constitution.
