A Flatts woman was horrified to find an ammunition box sitting outside her apartment on Tuesday morning.

And now Barbara Johnson is lying awake at night in fear.

She said: "I'm concerned for public safety and all the children walking around. What is Bermuda coming to? "I want to tell the public what happened. It's disturbing. How did it come to be at the bottom of my steps in Flatts Village.'' The mother-of-one said she left her apartment above Family Cleaners and went to the gas station across the street.

On her way back she kicked something in the pathway leading to her home and looked down to see the empty Israel Military Industries' 5.56 millimetre cartridge box.

Ms Johnson added: "I heard a jingling sound when I kicked it and I'm sure something fell out of it.

"I don't know what it was though and I've looked around the area but there's so much debris there and I'm not sure what to look for.'' She added that on the back of the cartridge box was scrawled "FF MASTERS RE 483''.

Ms Johnson said: "I couldn't even sleep last (Tuesday) night. I was listening for every single sound.'' After speaking to The Royal Gazette Ms Johnson said she would take the ammo box to Hamilton Police Station.

She stressed: "I just wanted to make sure the public new what had happened because I an concerned.'' Police press officer Evelyn James Barnett said the public should bring items such as this straight to Hamilton CID.
