false fire alarm and assaulting two men.

Scott Eugene Corday, 27, of St. John's Road, admitted to setting off a false fire alarm at the Marriott Hotel and assaulting Andrew and Nicholas Scafe at the Docksiders pub.

The first offence took place just after midnight on June 20.

Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said the hotel's night manager heard a loud noise and noticed three men making their way to the main entrance.

A short time later the fire alarm was heard ringing, causing some guests to panic. And the men were seen running off.

Some time later, Corday was seen and questioned about the offence, which he admitted.

Corday also admitted to assaulting Andrew and Nicholas Scafe at Docksiders on May 8.

While at the pub, Corday grabbed Andrew Scafe by the hair from behind, and also gripped Nicholas Scafe by the neck, breaking a leather chain on Scafe's neck, Sgt. Kirby said.

Corday admitted both offences to Police.

Duty counsel Mr. Tyrone Chin said Corday was drinking at the time and that the fight was because of a previous one involving the three men.

He also said Corday was sorry and would try to keep away from the men in the future.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge told Corday that the fire alarm offence was "an extremely stupid thing to do, which could've had tragic consequences'', and fined him $300.

He also ordered Corday to pay a fine of $150 on each assault charge and $5 compensation for the broken chain.
