Paul Furtado, of Store Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to driving along Collector's Hill in Devonshire on November 16 while impaired.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Police officers stopped Furtado after their car had to swerve to miss colliding with Furtado's car.

When the officers in the car approached Furtado, they noticed that his eyes were glazed and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Subsequent tests showed that Furtado had at least 124 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milligrams of blood.

MAGISTRATE ORDERS REPORT CTS Magistrate orders report Senior Magistrate Will Francis yesterday ordered a social inquiry report on an 18-year-old Southampton man who admitted possessing cannabis, intended for supply.

Dennis Lambert, of Sunnyside Park, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing 6.29 grams of cannabis intended for supply and possessing drug equipment -- 23 envelopes and a pack of cigarette papers -- on August 7.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said narcotics officers were at Southampton Rangers Club when they saw three youths standing at a bus shelter near the club.

The officers conducted a search and found $543 and envelopes on the youths and the cannabis on top of the roof of the bus shelter.

Lambert admitted that $400 of $543 seized was obtained from the sale of drugs.

Mr. Francis therefore ordered that the $400 be forfeited.

But he granted Lambert bail in the sum of $500 plus a surety in like sum and ordered that a social inquiry report be carried out.

MAN PLEAD GUILTY CTS Man pleads guilty A 21-year-old unemployed Pembroke man was hit with $750 in fines after pleading guilty in Magistrates' Court to a series of traffic offences and one count of escaping lawful custody.

On November 21 Ian Jason DeSilva and a passenger were observed by a Police cycle officer riding a motorcycle down Dutton Avenue with an out of date licence sticker.

After numerous orders to pull over DeSilva finally complied; however, after dismounting his bike he started to walk away. At the same time his passenger took control of the motorcycle and rode away.

When approached, DeSilva refused to identify himself prompting the officer to place him under arrest. At that point DeSilva broke away and ran across Bernard Park to meet up with his companion, who by then was waiting on the other side. The two subsequently made good their escape.

DeSilva was later tracked down and admitted his flight, telling Police "Ya, but at least I didn't hit you.'' DeSilva was also found to be riding an unlicensed cycle with no third-party insurance.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis find DeSilva $100 for riding an unlicensed cycle, $300 for no insurance, $100 for failing to identify himself, and $250 for escaping lawful custody.

FISHERMAN FINED $450 CTS Fisherman fined $450 A 39-year-old Canadian fisherman was fined $450 and disqualified from driving for a year after he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Terry Lynn Nowe, a fisherman off the Granchio , was spotted swerving from side to side on an auxiliary cycle on Wellington Street in St. George's on November 23 by Police officers.

He was stopped and the officers noticed he smelt of liquor and had trouble standing. A breath test revealed he had 209 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Nowe apologised to the court and said: "I was having a bad day. I've been here for four months and I'm homesick. I had also had a phone call from my wife who is having a hard time.

"It should never have happened and it won't happen again.''
