Leigh Eugene Hall, 36, of Bailey's Bay admitted to obstructing Police officers and possession of cocaine.

Sgt. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court yesterday that officers were patrolling Elliott Street, Hamilton on June 1 when they saw Hall.

They watched him take something out of his pocket and put it in his mouth.

Hall was informed that he was going to be searched, but he refused to open his mouth and attempted to walk off.

The father of two was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station for obstructing Police. On the way he spat out a brown paper object which contained a rock-like substance.

The substance turned out to be 0.04 grams of freebase cocaine of 94 percent purity. Hall was arrested for drug possession.

Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis fined him a total of $300.

TEEN FINED AND BANNED FROM DRIVING CTS A 17-year-old Pembroke man was fined $400 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified.

Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that on August 31 at 11.40 a.m.

Police stopped Ezikiel D. Burrows, of Cox's Hill, on Union Street after realising he was disqualified.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Burrows and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for 18 months.

DISQUALIFIED DRIVER IN COURT YET AGAIN CTS A 30-year-old Sandys Parish man was fined $350 after pleading guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while disqualified.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that Dione K. Bean was seen riding east on Somerset Road on August 31 when Police stopped him for driving while disqualified.

Sgt. Kirby added that it was Bean's fourth driving while disqualified offence.

TAKE A CAB THE NEXT TIME, MAN IS TOLD CTS A disqualified driver appeared in court and learned the hard way that he should take a cab and not risk getting behind the wheel.

Will Francis told Anthony Joseph Bascombe as he fined him a total of $1,000.

The court heard that Bascombe, 20, was stopped on Harrington Sound Road on August 24 after Police radar clocked his car doing 60 kph.

Bascombe, who was off the road until November next year, gave a false name. In Magistrates' Court he admitted driving while disqualified, making a false statement and speeding.

Bascombe, of Town Hill, Smith's Parish, told the court he had been due to travel abroad for a job. "I couldn't depend on anybody else to chauffeur me around and get my stuff together for this trip.

"I took the risk into my own hands.'' In addition to the fine, his disqualification was extended to May 1996.

Stacey Reno Simpson, 32, of Fisherman's Hill was driving his car on March 28 when he just missed hitting a Police car.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday he admitted to driving without due care and attention.

Sgt. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that a Police officer was driving a marked car along Wilkinson's Avenue when they saw Simpson driving in the opposite direction.

He was coming around a corner when he crossed the centre line. The Policeman had to brake to avoid a collision, said Sgt. Duffy.

DRUNK DRIVER DISQUALIFIED FOR A YEAR CTS A drunk-driver fell against his car and staggered towards Police after they stopped him, Magistrates' Court heard.

Richard George Oliver, 41, admitted driving on Middle Road, Devonshire on August 7 with 193 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit is 80 m.g.

While driving fast at 12.50 a.m. he crossed the centre line several times, the court was told.

When he stopped he fell against the car door frame and staggered towards the officers.

Oliver, of Tea Rose Lane, Devonshire, was fined $450 and banned from all vehicles for a year.
