"her regular happy-go-lucky self,'' when she visited a neighbour 30 minutes after the offence reportedly took place.

The neighbour told Supreme Court yesterday that she came into his apartment to brush her teeth early on the morning of February 16, 1992.

At that time he said she told him that her father had just had sex with her.

"I didn't really respond,'' the neighbour said. "I just told her it has nothing to do with me. She told me to keep it to myself.

"She stayed at my house for half an hour talking.'' The neighbour also said that the woman and the defendant never acted as if they were father and daughter.

"They didn't really act like father and daughter,'' he said. "They acted like lovers. She would call him by his name, never Daddy.'' A 52-year-old man also testified yesterday, saying he thought the woman was his own daughter -- not the defendant's -- because her mother "was his woman''.

He said he began a sexual relationship with the woman's mother in 1967. "I was going with her and living with her,'' he said. "In 1968 I got locked up two or three months after the riots. I was still going with her before I went to prison.

"I knew she was pregnant when I was going with her back in 1968. I thought it was my baby. She brought the baby when she came to see me when I was in Casemates. I assumed it was mine.'' But Crown counsel Mr. Stephen Harrison asked the man how he could be sure he was the father.

"Isn't it true you were convicted and sent to prison for six months starting on October 24, 1967?'' he asked.

"I don't know,'' the man replied. "I've been locked up so many times I can't remember every one.'' The court heard he was released on February 23, 1968. The woman he believed was his daughter was born eight months later on October 21, 1968.

The case centres on a charge by the woman that her alleged father raped her during the early morning hours of February 15, 1992.

She said she had just returned to the one-bedroom apartment she shared with her alleged father who was asleep on the floor.

She too fell asleep but said she was awakened by her alleged father who she said wrestled her to the ground and forced her to have sex.

The trial continues on Tuesday morning.
