Party chairman Mr. Geoff Parker wanted the poll delayed, he said, because audited reports on Government finances had not been produced for five years and voters could not judge the UBP's performance.

But his 14-page plea to Government House was rejected, Deputy Governor Mr.

John Kelly said yesterday.

Mr. Parker was told the delay in the independent Auditor's reports was not considered relevant to the election date, Mr. Kelly said.

The NLP chairman plans to reveal details of his submission and the "one-sentence'' reply to an election meeting on Thursday night.

Yesterday he would only say the response was "not acceptable''. There was nothing more a small party could do when faced with the "UK Government'', he said, and he would have to lay the issue before the public.

Government had consistently broken a constitutional requirement to produce the Auditor's reports.
