No comment on golf academy plan
yesterday on a golf academy proposed for the US Naval Annex in Southampton.
"I've received a few golf course proposals,'' said Dr. Gibbons, who chairs Government's Base utilisation committee.
Mr. Mansfield (Jim) Brock, who recently chaired the Premier's Commission on Competitiveness, has proposed that 160 acres at the Annex be set aside for golf, tennis, and sailing academies intended to boost winter occupancy at Bermuda's hotels.
While he is not involved in the golf academy proposal himself, Mr. Brock said he knows of international investors who are interested in pursuing it.
In addition to an 18-hole "destination-style'' course, the academy would include a driving range, a hole for practising sand shots, and three practice holes to keep students away from the other golfers.
