Labour Party's election platform when it was released this week.

Royal Gazette Ltd. general manager Mr. Keith Jensen confirmed that about 200 newspapers were distributed without the platform because the newspaper's press run came to about 18,200 papers.

But Mr. Jensen said insertions are usually arranged weeks in advance and therefore the paper can only give customers an estimate of the number of newspapers that will be printed.

"We gave them an estimate of 18,000 and it was probably a bit short,'' he said. "But 18,000 (platforms) were provided and 18,000 were distributed.'' PLP leader Mr. Frederick Wade said 18,000 copies of the party's platform were delivered to The Royal Gazette earlier this week for insertion in Tuesday's issue.

But he was informed that some of the newspapers did not have the platform in them.

"I apologise to people who bought the Gazette and did not find the platform in there,'' he said.

"That seems a bit low, based on the calls we've received,'' Mr. Wade said.

"But so far we have not been able to find the missing platforms or find out why they were not in The Royal Gazette .'' Anyone who did not obtain a copy of the platform could pick one up from the party's headquarters or from those canvassing, Mr. Wade said.

A printing press failure meant newspapers were late getting to the far ends of the Island yesterday.

An electrical problem stopped The Royal Gazette press at about 3 a.m., when 5,000 copies of yesterday's paper were still to be printed.

Those papers were destined for the St. George's and Somerset areas. The problem was corrected at about 10 a.m. and the last papers rolled off the press an hour later.

The Royal Gazette apologises for the inconvenience.
