for more than $220,000 by the Bank of N.T. Butterfield.

Mr. Roberts confirmed yesterday that the writ concerns the Somerset Bridge Hotel which he is trying to sell.

The hotel was taken into receivership earlier this year for non-payment of banking debts.

Earlier estimates were that lawsuits totalling $25,000 had been taken out against the Somerset Bridge by National Liberal Party Leader Mr. Gilbert Darrell's store equipment firm and the Bermuda Electric Light Company.

But the Bank of Butterfield suit appeared in the Supreme Court writs book yesterday with a figure of $229,615.53 quoted.

Mr. Roberts refused to comment further on the writ.

He said: "It is all in the hands of my lawyers.'' A buyer has been sought for the hotel since January and yesterday it was put up for sale by tender.

In an advertisement in The Royal Gazette the Somerset Bridge was described as "situated in the parish of Sandys in a waterfront lot approximately 0.6 acres.

"It has 24 rooms, a swimming pools and is licensed for a maximum of 91 guests. The hotel incorporates a restaurant which offers breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

"Reasonable offers encouraged. The Joint Receivers will not be bound to accept the highest or any offer submitted.'' Tenders are to be sent to Ms Janice Burns, Senior Manager at Kempe and Whittle on Reid Street.
