Opposition leader Mr. Frederick Wade made the pledge in a Labour Day statement yesterday.

The holiday weekend was a golden chance to toast the achievements of workers, he said.

And the Progressive Labour Party "paid homage'' to their spirit of cooperation and compromise.

"Bermuda has faced and met the challenges of the highs and lows in our labour relations,'' said Mr. Wade.

"The climate has not always been conducive to peaceful labour relations and it has not been easy.'' He added: "A PLP Government will renew its commitment to labour and pledge to bridge the present gap between labour and management and to bring about harmonious relations for the betterment of Bermuda as a whole.'' Mr. Wade said BIU president Mr. Ottiwell Simmons and other PLP MPs and candidates would speak at a rally at St. John's Field at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

"This is a curtain raiser for the Labour Day holiday weekend and a number of guest entertainers will also be appearing as part of the evening's highlights.
