rehabilitation, and for an AIDS support group through a drama production at City Hall.

They will perform on Thursday and Friday in `Time For A Change' -- a play written by an inmate.

The inmates were encouraged by prison nursing officer Julie Bain who also coordinated, the three-act drama.

When the play was first performed earlier this year at the prison, the Minister of Health and Social Services the Hon. Quinton Edness and Prison Commissioner Mr. Edward Dyer were among the audience.

Because the Minister and Mr. Dyer were so impressed, they encouraged the inmates to perform in public.

The play centres around a young man who is incarcerated. He wrestles with his "good conscience'' and wants to change, but at the same time he is provoked by his "bad conscience''.

Subjects such as self-esteem, values, morals and self approval are all dealt with in the script.

Mr. Dyer said: "The inward struggle of what motivates a man to change is handled skillfully and realistically in this drama.

"I view this drama as an opportunity to show the public that inmates are concerned and involved in positive and creative activity, to change their behaviour.

"The play captures the prison departments new philosophy, which focuses on facilitating positive behavioural change in order for the inmates to return to the community as productive citizens.'' Mr. Dyer assures the public that as far as security is concerned, all necessary precautions will be in place on the nights of the performances.

The actors are being assisted in the directing and producing of the play by Rev. Gary C. Johnson of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Kevin Bean from Gina Spence Productions.

Mr. Dyer said the name of the writer of the play will be revealed on the programme.

When asked if there will be further plays at City Hall by the inmates, Mr.

Dyer said he hoped they would continue but no other dates have been set. The play will be presented under the distinguished patronage of Mr. Edness.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the City Hall Box Office and Prison Headquarters.

Proceeds for the 7.30 p.m. show will be donated to Prison Fellowship and STAR.
