Residents stumped by trash mystery

A Smith's parish resident is determined to get to the bottom of a trash problem that she and neighbours face daily.

The Broken Hill Lane woman called The Royal Gazette at her wits end after she said efforts with Government officials gave little relief.

While most people put out the trash on the day it is to be collected, the frustrated Harrington Sound Road woman has complained that there is constantly trash at the bottom of Broken Hill Lane.

She said someone continually places trash in the neighbourhood removal area on days other than those for trash collection.

"I was almost of the opinion that they waited for the truck to leave to put it out,'' she said.

"Over the Christmas holiday it was terrible down there.'' The woman claimed she complained to the Department of Works and Engineering at the end of last year and that they sent out a letter reminding residents of the area's trash collection days -- Tuesday and Friday.

"I assume everyone got the letter,'' she said.

The woman, who said she was not alone in her plea, said she did not know who was the culprit. She claimed, however, that another neighbour saw a man putting out the trash at an inappropriate time.

She added that the man was made aware of the trash days. But she said that trash continues to be placed there daily creating an eyesore.

"I'm just trying to get it cleared up. We want all of Bermuda to look nice.''
