Labour Party yesterday as a Shadow Environment Minister alleged the recent renovations to the physical plant were illegal.

During the Motion to Adjourn, the Rev. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said he was concerned about the number of people making additions to their homes without Planning approval.

And he alleged Bermuda's newest funeral director Mrs. Doreen Williams-James, owner of the Alpha Funeral Home, had violated the law by cutting down trees, changing doors and windows without approval.

This allegation was immediately challenged by Community Affairs Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert (UBP) who argued it was a disputed matter whether or not Mrs. Williams had broken any law.

And if she had, she needed to be helped, not hindered, he said. It was everyone's responsibility to see small businesses succeeded.

Mrs. Grace Bell (UBP) said a letter regarding the property had been taken to the planning department and it was inappropriate to guess how it had been handled at this point.
