A young motorcycle rider suffered severe head injuries and a broken leg after he was in collision with a car on St. John's Road near Admiralty House at about 9 p.m., Police said.

He and a British visitor involved in an earlier crash were both still in surgery in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at Press time.

The British visitor, a 47-year-old woman, was the second tourist this month to land in hospital with head injuries after a moped crash on Bermuda's roads.

The accident occurred at about 12.30 p.m. in Somerset when she entered the main road on Scaur Hill intending to travel west.

Instead, she lost control of her cycle and collided with a Government bus heading east on Scaur Hill.

The woman bus driver of Southampton, trying to avoid collision, crashed into a utility pole on her side of the road.

The visitor sustained serious head and chest injuries and a broken left arm and leg.

The bus driver was treated at the hospital for shock. None of her passengers was injured in the accident, though the bus was extensively damaged.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact P.c. Minton Gilbert.

Last Tuesday a 29-year-old female woman tourist lost control of her livery cycle and struck a car on Harbour Road near Lower Ferry in Paget. She sustained severe head injuries and was detained in the intensive care unit for a short time.

A Police spokesman said she has since been moved to a general ward.
