US woman charged with heroin importation

The American woman arrested on charges of importing $321,000 worth of heroin was remanded in custody yesterday after a short hearing before a magistrate.

Shomberah Tiffana Thomas, 22, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, did not have to enter a plea before Senior Magistrate Will Francis. She was not represented by a lawyer, while Sgt. Phil Taylor represented the Crown.

Thomas faces three charges of importation, possession and handling of 50 grams of heroin -- properly known as diamorphine -- at the Bermuda International Airport this month. She was further remanded until February 21.
