Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted in St. George's.

The Bermuda Police Service would only confirm last night that a local woman had been the victim of "a serious sexual assault".

The attack took place in Cut Road, St. George's, at 11.30 p.m. on Thursday.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious or any circulating vehicles.

A Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for any witness or anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or any suspicious vehicles in the Cut Road area between 9 p.m. and 11.45 p.m. to please contact Detective Sergeant Jason Smith on 293-2222 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1-800-8477."

Officers from the Serious Crime Unit are assisting Eastern CIU officers with their inquiries.

PLP delegates conference schedule announced

The Progressive Labour Party has released details about its annual delegates' conference which takes place from Wednesday to Friday next week. (OCT 21-23)

People are invited to the first session, which will include Premier Ewart Brown's address, at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m.

On Thursday at 6.30 p.m. the venue shifts to Devonshire Recreation Club, with focus on party business and attendance restricted to delegates and members.

On Friday, a full day has been set aside for delegates to discuss "a wide range of relevant issues affecting Bermudian society", according to a press statement.

Rush hour traffic disrupted

A collision on South Road in Southampton yesterday morning caused traffic to be diverted to Cobbs Hill in Warwick.

The collision which involved a cycle and a trash truck occurred around 8.22 a.m. yesterday on South Road near the area of Coral Beach.

A Police spokesman explained a 45-year-old Southampton woman was pinned under her cycle, after she collided with a trash truck in the area. She was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries and then released.

Police issue Halloween vandalism warning

Police are issuing a Halloween warning to grocery stores, urging them to be on the look out for young people buying large amounts of eggs.

A Police spokesman said: "Halloween is fast approaching and we would like to take this opportunity to put grocery store operators on notice.

"Please be mindful of youth buying large quantities of eggs and please exercise sound judgment to ensure that eggs do not fall into the wrong hands and become a nuisance to us all."

HSBC promo offers tickets to Music Festival

HSBC could be offering six people the opportunity to meet the stars of this year's Bermuda Music Festival.

Between now and October 27, customers who sign up for personal Internet banking at HSBC will have their names placed in a draw for VIP tickets to the Music Festival.

Three winners will each receive two VIP tickets to either the Friday or Saturday night show, giving them full use of the HSBC private hospitality suite at Commissioner's House, along with backstage passes and the chance to have their pictures taken with the celebrities.

Celebrities performing at the event include Quincy Jones, Kenny Rogers, Michael McDonald, Patti Austin and John Legend.

The terms and conditions of the draw, however, state that access to the performers is not guaranteed.

Cyclist injured after collision with car

A 46-year-old was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for "non-life threatening head injuries" after a road collision yesterday.

According to Police, the man's cycle and a car collided at the junction of South and Middle roads in Southampton shortly after 7 a.m.

"It appears a man on a cycle travelling west and a car that was travelling in an easterly direction collided," said a Police spokesperson. "The 46-year-old man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening head injuries.

"As a result of the collision there were major delays as that is a very busy intersection."
