Drunken rage in restaurant costs man $2,118

A Pembroke man was fined yesterday after he admitted drunkenly damaging a food warmer during an outburst at Ice Queen.

Dandre Leach, 40, pleaded guilty to wilful damage and using threatening behaviour towards restaurant staff.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith told Magistrates' Court Leach ordered food from the Paget restaurant in the early hours of June 3.

When he was told the cost of his order, he became enraged, telling assistant manager Nicodemus Naypa: "You must f***ing work with me cause I am Bermudian."

Ms Smith said he also threatened to shoot the staff with a machine gun before paying the bill.

While waiting for his food, Leach grabbed another customer's drink and lobbed it at a staff member. The worker managed to avoid the glass bottle but it struck a food warmer, damaging it.

Leach then went into the restaurant's kitchen, chased the employees, and kicked a cash register and a drink cooler.

When Police arrived, they found food, cash and broken glass littering the restaurant.

Leach pleaded guilty to the offence, saying that he was too drunk to remember what happened.

"I was very much intoxicated and I have no idea what took place," he said.

"I was depressed, I was going through financial problems, but I accept full responsibility for my conduct, and I would like the opportunity to pay back the restaurant."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Leach $1,000 for the threatening behaviour and an additional $400 for the wilful damage.

Leach was also ordered to pay the restaurant $718.20 to repair the broken food warmer.
