Elbow housekeepers donate money to charity

Elbow Beach Hotel housekeeping staff donated $1500 to PALS. Lorraine Morris, who suggested colleagues give their prize money to the cancer charity, is pictured holding the cheque. When the housekeeping team at Elbow Beach cleaned up in a staff review, their first thought was for those less fortunate than themselves.

Employees were awarded $1,500 in prize money for excelling in training standards and customer service.

Rather than keeping the cash for personal use however, the staff decided to donate it to charity.

Zeudi Hinds, Elbow Beach director of communications, said: "They chose to donate their prize of $1,500 to P.A.L.S. as so many members of our staff have been impacted by cancer.

"We are immensely proud of our Housekeeping staff for both delivering superior service standards and for their generous and selfless donation to P.A.L.S."

As part of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Elbow Beach holds a series of customer service initiatives. P.A.L.S. (formerly the Patients Assistance League and Service) was founded in 1980 to enable cancer patients to remain in their homes rather than being hospitalised.

There is no charge for the services of its nurses, or for medical equipment or supplies.
