Foreign trio is accused of major drug importation
Three foreign nationals appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday accused of importing millions of dollars worth of cannabis.
Andrew Blatchley and Jeannie Harden, both 58, from Great Oak Drive in Charleston, South Carolina and Edide Plourde, 68, from Boul de Maisonneuve, in Quebec, were charged with conspiring to import cannabis into the Island.
The charges relate to an unknown date from September 23.
Though an exact amount was not revealed in court yesterday, The Royal Gazette understands it was a substantial amount, valued at millions of dollars.
None of the accused was required to enter a plea as the matter is indictable and will have to be heard in Supreme Court.
Blatchley and Harden, represented by lawyer Peter Farge, were separately charged with money laundering the proceeds from drug trafficking. Plourde is represented by lawyer Llewellyn Peniston.
All three were remanded in Police custody and will appear back in Magistrates' Court for mention on October 20.
