Friends pay tribute to drowning victim

Friends of the New York bride who died on her honeymoon in Bermuda last week have flooded an internet site with tributes to her.

Ting Chen, 28, got into difficulties at Snorkel Park on Thursday afternoon and attempts to save her with CPR failed. She was pronounced dead in hospital about an hour after collapsing — less than a week after getting married in New York.

Friends of the young teacher — who was honeymooning with husband Ron on board the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship — have created a memorial page called "We will always miss you, Ting" on the Facebook internet site.

The page features photographs and stunned messages from those who knew her. Amy Munoz wrote: "There are no words to describe... no words.

"I am truly sorry and, as the days go by, the news becomes more and more unbearable. Only God can heal. Please have faith.

"He will take good care of her family and Ron. Don't worry. You are a precious jewel that will forever live in everybody's heart."

Alice Lee posted: "I only wish we had more time together. But I am happy knowing she was happy. She had everything she could have ever wanted and deserved no less."

Kori Chen wrote: "It is just shocking how this could have happened. I send prayers to her family for them to gain the strength to get through this."

Police have yet to release the cause of death for Mrs. Chen, who taught at an all girls' school in New York City and whose husband is a youth pastor at the church in Hicksville where they tied the knot.

The New York Post reported that she was unable to swim and initially wore a life jacket as she snorkelled with her husband at Snorkel Park.

"They were having a good time, frolicking in the water," the newspaper quoted a Police source as saying.

The source said Mrs. Chen got out of the water with her husband but jumped back in "inexplicably" without the life vest.

The Post said Mrs. Chen moved to the US from China about ten years ago and lived with her husband on the Lower East Side.

She was the second tourist to die last week after swimming in Bermuda's waters.

Juergen Ausborn, 66, from Ardsley, Southern Westchester County, New York, drowned on July 27 after he got into trouble in choppy water off Pompano Beach Club, Southampton.
