Getting on their bikes for better community relations

Gearing up for Gymkhana: Dennis Joell, Arthur Glasford and Clifford Robert put in a few laps around the Police Field in preparation for the revitalized Police Gymkhana. After a 22-year absence it will be a Key feature of this year's Police Week.

The Police service is hoping to strengthen its bond with the community by hosting a bicycle gymkhana.

Food stalls, bouncy castles, rides and numerous bicycle competitions will be held as part of the October 2 event, which Sergeant Clifford Roberts hopes will promote healthy living and foster a strong relationship between young people and the Police.

"If we can develop a good relationship with a five, six, seven-year-old, and we are able to keep them on-board, then we'll have a better relationship when they are older," he said.

'There will be prizes and giveaways and we hope, certificates for everyone involved.

"There are going to be a number of events, including a celebrity competition with various public figures. It's something we're very excited about."

Sgt. Roberts said everyone is asked to bring a working bicycle and a helmet if they want to participate.

Events start at 10 a.m. at Police field at Prospect, and are expected to run until 5.30 p.m.
