Harbourview Village: A timeline on the St. David's development
June 2004 Non-profit Bermuda Homes for People (BHP) partners with Government in the construction of 200 town houses, half of which are to be sold at market value, the other half at $199,000. Construction is expected to start in January 2005, with a completion date of April 2006.
November 2004 Businesses on the 16 acres of land intended for use in the project refuse to move, leaving Government with only four acres of land for construction.
June 2005 BHP project manager John Gaston announces construction on the homes will not begin until November, with a completion date of April 2007. A lottery is held, with 98 Bermudians winning affordable homes at the development.
September 2005 BHP pull out of the project, refunding 35 people for deposits on homes at market value.
December 2005 Government announces that it intends to continue the project without BHP.
June 2006 Senator David Burch promises the homes will be built before the end of 2006. He also reveals that 108 homes will be built, instead of 200 town houses.
July 2007 Sen. Burch holds a groundbreaking ceremony, proving to tender contracts in August and begin construction in September 2007.
March 2008 Bermuda Housing Corporation advertises for contractors.
October 2008 Sen. Burch reveals that a Government "financial freeze" has been placed on the project.
Fifty-eight homes are expected to be completed by October 2009, with another 48 "hopefully" built six months later.
June 2009 Sen. Burch says that the first 58 units will be completed in May 2010, with the remaining 48 by the end of 2010.
