Man broke his foot as he ran from Police
A Pembroke man admitted running from Police, breaking his own foot in the process.
Jahdel Rogers told Police he ran because he thought he had marijuana in his pocket, but later discovered he had already smoked it.
Rogers, 29, pleaded guilty yesterday to attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
Crown counsel Larissa Burgess said Police stopped Rogers on North Shore in Devonshire near the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club for a random weapons search around 10 p.m. on August 20.
When officers told Rogers they were going to search him he turned and ran towards the ocean.
Officers said that as he ran, they saw him reach into his right pocket as if attempting to grab something.
He then jumped over a wall onto a rocky area of shoreline before leaping into the ocean and trying to swim away.
Police followed Rogers, eventually pulling him out of the water and arresting him.
Asked by Police why he ran, he said: "I thought I had a joint, but I forgot I smoked it earlier."
Rogers appeared in Magistrates' Court on crutches. He said he broke his foot during his attempted getaway.
He yesterday said he'd lied to officers about why he ran.
"I thought I had a warrant," he said. "This was completely out of character for me."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner disagreed, pointing out a number of prior offences including multiple charges for wounding and possessing offensive weapons.
He fined Rogers $1,000.
