without filling out the necessary documents was fined $500 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Dean W. Pitt of Watlington Lane, pleaded guilty to attempting to export US currency without the permission of the controller.

Crown Counsel Ms. Sharon Kenny told the court that on April 22 at 1.10 p.m.

Pitt was at the Civil Air Terminal where he was headed towards the departure lounge.

"Pitt was intercepted by US Customs officers before entering the lounge and his bag was searched. At the bottom of his bag they found two small packages,'' Ms. Kenny said.

"Inside the packages were $12,200 in various denominations. When questioned about the money Pitt said: `I packed the bag but I didn't know about the money.'' Ms. Kenny added that Pitt had filled out the proper monetary forms to carry $800 in US currency.

The officers seized $13,000 which included the $800.

When Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked Pitt why he didn't fill out the necessary forms for the $12,200 he said: "I was taking the money away to buy things for my children. A baby crib and carriage and other items for babies.'' Mr. Francis fined Pitt $500 and ordered that the $12,200 be forfeited.
