A 25-year-old man has been charged with the gun murder of Kumi Harford.

Antonio Myers was brought to Magistrates' Court amid tight security yesterday to face allegations that he committed the killing on December 5, 2009.

Mr. Harford, 30, was shot dead in his car on St. Monica's Road, Pembroke in the early hours of that day.

Myers, of Rambling Lane, Pembroke, is also charged with possession of a firearm.

He was not required to enter a plea during his brief court appearance, as the matter must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.

Prosecutor Robert Welling did not give any information relating to the case.

Myers was flanked by several prison officers and Police officers during the hearing, in a packed courtroom.

He wore a yellow linen suit with a green shirt and tie, and was not required to speak during the proceedings.

His lawyer, Elizabeth Christopher, made no application for bail and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him into custody until June 15.

The charges Myers faces are the first in respect of a string of gun murders in the past 12 months. A total of nine men have lost their lives since May 2009.

An additional 25 people have been injured by gunfire since the beginning of 2009. Charges are before the courts in respect of three of those cases.

Five firearms have been recovered, according to Police information released on Friday.
