Parliament gives gift to Jackson
Shadow Health Minister Louise Jackson has been presented with a portrait of her late husband by fellow politicians in what the Speaker of the House Stanley Lowe called an "expression of love and goodwill".
The gift was handed over to Mrs. Jackson shortly before the House of Assembly adjourned for lunch during Friday's session. Former Senate president Albert Jackson died in September aged 90 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Mr. Lowe said the House and Grounds Committee, chaired by former Premier Dame Jennifer Smith, agreed to give Mrs. Jackson the portrait, painted by artist Sam Morse-Brown.
Mrs. Jackson said: "I want to say thank you to Mr. Speaker and Dame Jennifer for this and the House and Grounds Committee. It has brought tears to my eyes. I'm very grateful and very thankful and I want to include the Jackson family in the thanks."
