Police probe cricket club blast
Police are investigating an explosion at Somerset Cricket Club — caused by a suspected home-made explosive device.
A Police spokesman said: "At 3.40 a.m. on Sunday, Police received a report of a suspicious object at Somerset Cricket Club grounds.
The Royal Gazette understands that it is not believed to be related to recent shootings and gang activity and that the device was made from household products.
A Police spokesman declined to comment on what the device was made of and said they are investigating all leads and added: "Officers were already at the scene monitoring patrons leaving a function at the premises when they heard a loud noise and saw smoke.
"They located the source of the blast and discovered a suspected home-made explosive device in a courtyard area.
"The simple device consisted of a plastic bottle containing a liquid substance. No one was injured."
A spokesman for the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service said that they were contacted at around 4.13 a.m. after receiving a report of smoke on the field, but when firefighters arrived on the scene there was no sign of fire.
The offending item was seized by Police for further analysis.
