A psychological report was ordered on a Warwick man after he admitted punching a Police officer.

Norton Thomas, 58, of Warwick, appeared in Magistrates' Court charged with violently resisting arrest and assaulting a Police officer, causing bodily harm. He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Crown counsel Larissa Burgess said that on November 17, Police were responding to a person prowling in the Chapel Road area when they noticed Thomas walking west on Middle Road, in Paget.

Police questioned Thomas and noticed that he became agitated, eventually walking away towards Ord Road.

Later that evening, officers responded to an attempted burglary at Salt Kettle Lane, and speaking to the victim noticed that the description of the suspect was similar to that of Thomas.

Searching the area, officers found Thomas on the Railroad Trail, near Ord Road.

They questioned Thomas, and attempted to arrest him on suspicion of attempted burglary, but Thomas became angry and punched one of the officers in the face.

The attack continued with both Thomas and the officer falling to the ground before other officers used Captor spray to stop him.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and a psychological report on Thomas.

Mr. Warner also ordered Thomas to be remanded until January 7, when he is expected to return to court to be sentenced.
