"They always spent every day since they were eight or nine years old together. He was there every day. He was a nice kid. He was immature and he was very impulsive. It just started in the last few years.

"He still had a lot of growing to do, but was a nice kid. I always liked him. He was like one of mine."

Jean Kromer, who also housed C.J. during various parts of his life, said he was always respectful and often referred to her as 'mama'.

"C.J. had numerous friends and he is well liked and will always be remembered," she said. "I met C.J. through my nephew and he needed a place to stay so I took him in for a while and he was ever so respectful, loving and protective of my family.

"My heart goes out to his family and all his best buddies as they have lost a true friend."

Luis Tomaz, another friend of C.J.'s said he would truly miss his "brother".

"I would like to mention that C.J. lived his life to the fullest and no one could hold him back from that. He was a great guy and got along with everyone.
