Teenager charged in double murder

Eighteen-year-old Darronte Lavar Dill is flanked by Police detectives after being charged with the murder of Maxwell (Buckshot) Brangman and Frederick (Freddie) Gilbert. Dill was remanded into custody.

A teenager was charged yesterday with murdering homeless St. David's residents Maxwell (Buckshot) Brangman and Frederick (Freddie) Gilbert.

Darronte Lavar Dill turned 18-years-old on September 24, three days after the alleged double slaying.

He is the second person charged in the case. Roger Eugene Lightbourne, 40, of Tommy Fox Road, St. David's, was in court on Wednesday accused of murdering Mr. Brangman.

Neither had to enter pleas during their brief Magistrates' Court appearances as the charges must be dealt with at the Supreme Court. Relatives and friends of the dead men attended Dill's hearing yesterday as they had Lightbourne's.

The courtroom was silent as Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner read the charges to the teenager, who was flanked by several Police officers as he stood in the dock. Lawyer, Kenrick James, made no application for bail and Mr. Warner remanded him into custody.

Both he and Mr. Lightbourne must come back to Magistrates' Court for an administrative hearing on October 8. A third man who was detained over the murders was bailed without charge on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, The Royal Gazette understands that a fourth man was in custody yesterday, being questioned by detectives.

Police revealed last week that Mr. Brangman died from a number of wounds to his head and body, before his body was set alight. Mr. Gilber's body was found the next day in the waters of Great Bay. An autopsy revealed that he died from multiple wounds before his body was immersed in water.

The Royal Gazette understands that both men had been stabbed. Detectives said last week that they believe the men were killed at the same time.
