Three men were arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms after an incident on Court Street yesterday.

Police responded to a reported sighting of men with weapons in a parking lot just before 2.30 p.m.

A spokesman said: "This resulted in Police units converging on the location and a number of searches being carried out. As a result, three men are in custody assisting Police with this inquiry; however, no firearms were recovered."

Soon after the incident, several Police vans were seen in the Middletown area. Locals told The Royal Gazette that officers there were asking questions about what had happened on Court Street.

One man said he saw several armed men chase another man along Court Street but that no one was injured.

The incident is being investigated and anyone with information should call Police on 295-0011 or Crimestoppers on 800-8477.
