Three men up on shooting charges
Three men accused in two different shooting incidents faced charges at Supreme Court yesterday.
One of them, Omari Gordon, is alleged to have shot at Police officers in Middletown, Pembroke, on November 29, 2008.
He is charged with unlawfully discharging a shot from a firearm and using a firearm with intent to resist or prevent arrest.
Gordon, 27, from Devonshire, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chief Justice Richard Ground during the monthly arraignment session.
His trial was set for October 11 and he was remanded into custody.
Another case involves two men who face charges stemming from a shooting on Easter Sunday at the Royal Artillery Association club in St. George.
Dwayne Signor, 29, from St. George's, is accused of attempting to murder Shawn Williams.
Mr. Williams, 18, suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body during the incident at a late night reggae party at the venue.
Signor is further accused of wounding Mr. Williams with intent to do grievous bodily harm through shooting at him with a loaded firearm, and possessing a firearm and one 9 mm bullet.
Khyri Smith-Williams, 19, from Sandys, is accused of carrying a firearm and going armed in a public place so as to cause terror.
Both men denied the charges and are due to go on trial on August 16. They were remanded into custody in the meantime.
In another case, David Jahwell Cox stands accused of threatening to shoot someone.
Cox allegedly snatched a gold chain worth $1,600 from victim Ellesworth Smith, then told him: "I know what to do with guys like you shoot you."
The incident is said to have occurred at Gombeys bar, in St. David's, on May 23.
Cox pleaded not guilty to robbery and using threatening words, and his trial was fixed for July 12. He was remanded into custody until then.
Also facing charges yesterday was Derek Spalding, 35, of Pembroke. He's accused of an aggravated burglary at a house in Spice Hill Road where he allegedly inflicted harm on Derrick Butterfield with a three-foot metal object.
Spalding is further accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Mr. Butterfield and doing wilful damage to a motor vehicle belonging to him.
A date for his trial will be set when he returns to court for the August 2 arraignment session, and he was bailed in the meantime.
Two women, Garrina Cann, 21, from Pembroke and Trimiea Roland, 22, from St. David's, pleaded not guilty to assaulting another woman, Brittany Symonds, with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
They were bailed until their trial on August 9.
