Women found guilty of attack on teenager

Trimiea Roland, 22, was found guilty Monday August 16th of hitting a teenage girl in the head with a rock during an attack in St David's.

Two women were yesterday convicted of beating a teenage girl with a rock and a stick, causing injuries to her head.

A Supreme Court jury took an hour to unanimously find Garrina Cann and Trimiea Roland guilty of the February 2 attack on Brittany Symonds <\!m> the 17-year-old required multiple staples and stitches as a result of the wounds.

The pair was remanded into custody until October 4 for sentencing. Roland is pregnant.

Miss Symonds had earlier told the court that the women attacked her on Mount Road, St. David's after she refused to give Cann her cell phone.

The teenager said was near the lighthouse looking for a friend who had walked off, when she was confronted by the 21-year-old.

"She told me to give her my phone. I said no. I didn't know if she would have give it back or not," she told the jury.

She said Cann was accompanied by two people she didn't know <\!m> Marcus Fox and Roland, 22.

Miss Symonds said she made to walk away, but Cann hit her on the head with an 18-inch long stick five or six times <\!m> and then told the other girl to hit her.

The teenager said the other girl picked up a rock around 12 inches wide and five inches tall from the road, and pushed her from behind into a wall.

Then, she said, the girl hit her on the head with the rock three times.

Miss Symonds said the beating stopped when her own friend arrived.

Yesterday, Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess told the jury to convict both Cann and Roland.

"I really urge you to reject Miss Cann's events. She lied to the Police. Garrina agreed that she didn't tell the Police a lot of things.

"She knew what Police were there for. They were investigating a crime so why did she lie?

"Trimiea wants you to believe that she's some superman who comes to save the day and left. She came and flung her to the left? Please."

She continued:<\p>"When you consider the credibility of both of their evidence, keep in mind that out of all the witnesses, they are the most biased and interested ones. They have the most at stake.
