right licence can be costly -- even if you hold a licence to drive a private car.

Joseph Laurie of Verdmont Valley pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving a motorcycle at 55 kph without having the proper driver's licence.

"I assumed that if I can drive a car I would also be able to drive a motorcycle,'' Laurie told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis.

"A lot of people are under that assumption,'' Mr. Francis said. "But driving a motorcycle requires separate skills. If you want to ride a motorcycle take the test and get your licence endorsed for a motorcycle.'' He fined Laurie $200 for speeding and $100 for not having a motorcycle licence.

Fleur Marshall also pleaded guilty to speeding at 52 kph and not having the proper licence.

Marshall went through Police radar at Crow Lane, Pembroke on June 23 on a motorcycle. She had a licence to drive a private car but not a motorcycle.

She was fined $180 for speeding and $100 for not having a motorcycle licence.
