Azorean man becomes fourth road fatality of 2009
A Portuguese construction worker was killed after crashing his motorcycle into a car.
Emmanuel Sousa, 38, suffered head injuries in the accident on North Shore Road, near its junction with Twin Lanes South, on Sunday shortly after 10.30 p.m.
Mr. Sousa was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11.30 p.m.
The crash was Bermuda's fourth road fatality of 2009, and came just six days after another 38-year-old, Moses Jacobs, was killed in an accident on Middle Road, Southampton.
Mr. Sousa arrived in Bermuda from Açores two years ago to work for DeSilva's Construction, and he lived on property adjoining the site in St. John's Road.
He had one brother on the Island, also working for DeSilva's. Another two brothers who used to work with DeSilva's have since returned to the Açores.
Police say Mr. Sousa was driving west when his bike collided with a car coming the other way.
The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Hamilton Parish man, was not injured. The car's front was damaged while the motorcycle was extensively damaged.
Witnesses are urged to call PC Dellworth Smith on 295-0011.
