Breaking News: Driver charged with injuring UBP leader

An alleged drunk-driver accused of injuring Kim Swan and his wife faced charges at Supreme Court this morning.

Jonathan Guishard, 40, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Ercinda Swan, known as Cindy, while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The wife of the Opposition Leader required hospital treatment after the van she and her husband were travelling in was in collision with a car on North Shore Road in the early hours of July 11 2009.

Guishard, of North Shore Road in Pembroke, is also accused of causing actual bodily harm to Mr. Swan by reckless or dangerous driving, and to Lee-Ann Harvey, the occupant of another vehicle involved.

He is further alleged to have been driving with excess alcohol at the time of the incident near Terceira’s gas station.

Guishard, who appeared during the monthly arraignments session, denies all the charges. Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves bailed him until an administrative hearing on March 1.

See tomorrow’s edition of The Royal Gazette for full coverage of the arraignments session.
