A 50-year-old man caught with 2.28 grams of marijuana in his cycle helmet pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrates' Court.

Mario Place, of Pembroke, was on his motorcycle when he was stopped by police on Pender Road in Somerset on November 11.

Officers informed Place he would be searched and, with the aid of a canine sniffer dog, a clear plastic twist was found in the lining of his helmet.

He was cautioned about the offence and told officers: "It's a little herb."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 for the offence or an alternative three-month prison term in default.
