Five get tourism scholarships

The Premier has awarded five young Bermudians pursuing hospitality studies with scholarships as part of a joint initiative between the Ministry of Tourism and cruise line Royal Caribbean.

Dr. Ewart Brown, also the Tourism Minister, presented the recipients of the Royal Caribbean Bermuda Hospitality Studies Endowment Fund with their scholarships aboard the Grandeur of the Seas berthed in Dockyard alongside a representative from the cruise firm, Captain Robert Hempstead .

Bermuda College students Ricai Williams and Devin Thomas were each presented with $750 to further their culinary arts and hospitality studies respectively. Jordan Hassell was awarded $5,000 to attend the University of Gloucestershire to study event management and hospitality.

Daamian Simmons was given $5,000 to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in culinary arts management at Charleston's Art Institute, while Alistair Jack was awarded $10,000 for tourism, hospitality and hotel management studies at Scottsdale Community College.

Ashjuanna Thomas was handed a $15,000 scholarship to attend the Johnson & Wales North Carolina Campus to study international hotels and tourism management.
