Hunt's election victory took seat from PLP
The 2007 election was the first for the then UBP candidate for St. George's South Donte Hunt. Only 30-years-old, he beat former Attorney General Phillip Perinchief by 544 to 519.
In the same constituency in 2003 election PLP candidate Renee Webb beat the UBP candidate Tim Smith by just eight votes.
While Mr. Hunt secured the seat for the UBP, in one of the only change of seats in 2007, he decided to leave the party two years later.
In September last year, Mr. Hunt along with UBP MPs Shawn Crockwell, and Mark Pettingill, UBP Senator Michael Fahy, party chairman Sean Pitcher and former UBP candidate Wayne Scott, quit the United Bermuda Party.
Mr. Hunt later formed the Bermuda Democratic Alliance (BDA) along with Mr. Crockwell and Mr. Pettingill. At the time he said: "This movement is because we want a better Bermuda, but most of all it's an answer to a call. It's a call from the majority of Bermudians out there. Whether it be staunch UBP or staunch PLP voters, I have heard the support that's out there.
"In caucus, all of us here have been beating the drum in terms of change. We presented in detail what we thought needed to be done. There's been no movement, not even a compromise; we have been the same UBP in terms of structure. We have been quite patient. This is not an overnight thing.
"I want Bermuda to be a place where when it comes to an election, we can concentrate on debating the issues of the day."
