Jury selected for Easter Sunday shooting trial

Khyri Smith-Williams (second left) and Dwayne Signor (second right) leave Supreme Court yesterday, where they are facing charges over a shooting on Easter Sunday at the Royal Artillery Association Club in St. George's.

Two men are due to stand trial today over the Easter Sunday shooting at the Royal Artillery Association club in St. George's.

Dwayne Signor, 29, from Governor's Alley, St. George's, is accused of attempting to murder Shawn Williams.

Mr. Williams, who was 18 at the time, suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body during the incident at a late-night reggae party.

Signor is further accused of shooting at Mr. Williams with a loaded firearm with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and possessing a firearm and a 9 mm bullet.

Khyri Smith-Williams, 19, from White Hill View, Sandys, is accused of carrying a firearm and going armed in public so as to cause terror. The men deny the charges. A jury was selected yesterday to hear the trial, which is expected to last around three weeks and hear from more than 30 witnesses.

Prosecutors Nicole Smith and Robert Welling represent the Crown, Jerome Lynch QC and Kyle Masters represent Smith-Williams and Marc Daniels represents Signor. The judge is Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons.

Security at Supreme Court One was tight yesterday morning when the jury panel was selected. There was a metal detector at the main entrance to the court, and members of the public had their bags searched on the way in. Uniformed Police were also stationed at every door in the building, inside and out.
