Man in court on slingshots charge
A Sandys man was charged with importing and selling slingshots and air pistols.
Paul Crosby Smith, of East Shore Road, yesterday denied importing eight slingshots into the Island on May 11.
He is further charged with supplying persons with prohibited weapons namely the eight slingshots between May 11 and July 9 and importing eight more slingshots and three air pistols on July 5.
Crosby denied all the charges in Magistrates' Court.
Crown prosecutor Cindy Clarke said the defendant confessed to being in possession of the slingshots during a Police interview.
"When Police searched the home of the defendant, they did find boxes from the slingshots company. He said that he had in fact sold the slingshots that were imported.
"He was not forthcoming as to who he sold these items to. When the defendant's home was searched, they also found ski masks."
Ms Clarke also told the court a prison sentence of two years could be imposed for possession of the slingshots and five years for the air pistol.
Smith was remanded into custody and will reappear for mention on July 27.
