Meat thief's $550 tenderloin haul

A man who admitted to receiving $550 worth of stolen meat will be sentenced next month in Magistrates' Court.

Keavin Wendell Caines, 31, of Barracks Close in St. George's told Police he planned to use the meat for an anniversary party but couldn't find a place to store it. He ended up eating some of the meat and giving the rest away.

The court heard that on July 8, Caines, a Gosling's employee, made a delivery to the Marketplace store on Church Street in Hamilton.

During the delivery, Caines and another colleague picked up a box of Butt Tenderloin meat valuing $555.33 and threw it on the delivery truck. Caines was caught on CCTV cameras and later admitted his part in the offence during a Police interview.

He is represented by lawyer Larry Scott and will appear back in court on August 29 for sentencing.

Jared Gordon, 18, of Sound View Road in Sandys is charged with stealing the meat but pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday and will face trial in September.
