Men fined for impaired driving
Two men appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday for impaired driving.
The court heard from Crown counsel Larissa Burgess that on Saturday Police received information that a heavy truck was spotted driving erratically and swerving in and out of the lanes which had collided with the wall at Fort Scaur.
Joecoy Burrows, 23, who was driving at time of the collision the court heard, switched seats with Kirk Wade, 44, at the Packwood Home bus layby before being pulled over by Police.
Police asked Wade if he had been drinking and Burrows yelled out: "F*** you guys, ya gonna arrest him for teaching us how to drive? That's f***** up!"
When Police officers told him that he can be arrested for using offensive words, Burrows said: "These f****** guys don't know."
A witness identified Burrows as the driver and when Police questioned him on the matter Burrows said: "I ain't saying nothing to you guys."
The two were arrested and taken to Somerset Police Station where they were charged with impaired driving and offensive words.
"I apologise to the court, my family and to Joecoy and his family. I am currently attending AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings to help me with my problems," Wade told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo.
He was fined $800 for impaired driving, given 10 demerit points and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
Burrows told the court: "I apologise for everything."
He was fined $800 for impaired driving, $300 for using offensive words, awarded a total of 17 demerit points and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
