Bermuda will not be affected by a recall of 2.3 million Toyota cars in the United States.

Toyota announced last week, it was recalling millions of cars produced in North America due to faulty gas pedals.

Bermuda Motors is the sole distributors of Toyota on the Island.

Operations manager Mike Butler said all of their cars are imported directly to the Island from Japan not from North America where the recall is taking place.

"None of the models affected by the recall are sold in Bermuda," he said. "The only cars affected are those produced in America. In the past we have brought in one of the models but it is now too big for Bermuda's roads, so we no longer do so."

He added: "Customers can be assured that a Toyota bought from Bermuda Motors meets the high levels of safety and quality for which Toyota is renowned."

Bermuda Motors currently carries the Yaris hatchback and sedan models. In the past the company has sold the Rav 4 and Corolla models including several others.
