Out of the mouths of babes...

Victor Scott Primary School has found itself on the front line of the shootings that have claimed so many lives in the last year.

On Good Friday, Kimwandae Walker, 35, was killed in front of his children on the Victor Scott School playing field and one of its teachers, Nekesha Holdipp, was the wife of George Lynch, 40, who was killed on May 5.

Moved by all the tragedies, teacher Sophia Iris asked her class to write a letter to the gunmen. Here we publish them in full.

Dear Mr. Gunman,

My name is Kerry Puckerin-Tear and my dad WAS Perry Mosley Puckerin. I say was, because someone who didn't care about how I felt, shot my daddy. You shouldn't be shooting like that. If you are responsible, then you shot my daddy and my two godpas.

Everybody in my family feels sad about losing them. Now I don't have anyone to buy me all the nice clothes and shoes that my daddy used to buy me. But I still have people to take care of me, like my mama, nana, papa, aunty and my big brother.

If you stop shooting, it would be GREAT! You cannot take away people's lives from them. Nobody likes gunmen. Well, they like the people, but they don't like the things they do.

Gunmen are jealous of the things that rich people have. My family doesn't like it when you hurt people. You are going to keep going to jail if you don't stop. You are trying to get 16 and 17 year olds to shoot people that you don't like. It's not fair! So, PLEASE STOP NOW!

Sincerely,

Kerry Puckerin-Tear

Dear Shooting Man,

If I had a chance to speak to you there would be big trouble. I'M NOT JOKING, YOU KNOW!!!!!!

Here are the things I am mad at:

1. You are being BAD.

2. You have guns.

3. You shoot.

Guns can kill people. Giving and taking life is God's job. Guns do not give you the power. We would appreciate it if you would stop. If you don't before you know it you'll end up in JAIL!

Please, be good!

Signed,

Malaikah Abdul-Jabbar

This is to all the gunmen.

Dear gunmen,

I don't like how you are killing people's families in the community.

Please stop shooting. Think of the children; maybe, think of your own children. How would they feel if you got shot dead? Think of your wife. How will she feed your children? How will she take care of herself when she is sick?

It makes me sad to see people crying. Sometimes people wish they were dead themselves. People are really hurt to see other people's relatives die. It is so heartbreaking. The people whose family members you have killed are very sad.

Yours truly,

Letrae Doeman

If I could talk to the gunman I would say: Please don't shoot people because they might have a family and if you kill them their family will be sad. If you stop shooting Bermuda will be a better place.

Sincerely,

Chloe

Dear Gunman,

My name is Jahdonte Parkes. Can you please stop shooting because it is taking away people's lives and hurting their families. So I ask you, can you please, please, please stop? Bermuda needs peace now. So I am asking you, can you please stop? Suppose someone took you from your family. So now you see how it feels. You do unto others what you expect them to do unto you.

Sincerely, Jahdonte Parkes

Dear Gunman,

My name is Quadre Emery. May you please stop because you are making people sad. So please don't shoot in Bermuda. Bermuda needs peace. Put the guns down. Don't use guns in Bermuda. Bermuda is a place with no shooting allowed. Break the guns.

From,

Quadre

Dear Shooting Man,

If you ever try to shoot me, I will stand up for myself and say "STOP THE SHOOTING" because I will call the police. I have a cell phone in my pocket so do not shoot! Lots of people are dying from GUNS!!! You might kill somebody by accident and that would not be nice.

Sincerely,

Rico

Dear Gunman,

You are not helping to get peace in Bermuda! I might move to Canada but my friends will still be here. You need to stop. If I could I would kick you! You shouldn't kill people especially for no reason. I do not like you at all. If you get caught, I would not care. Like you didn't care when you shot the person.

Dear Gunman,

I feel cross with you because you have been killing people. I would love for you to stop. It would be great if you could go and get some help.

By: Jadeja Smith

Dear Mr. Gun men,

Please don't shoot it is killing a lot of people and so many people are missing them. I don't want you to shoot anymore people because you are taking away their lives and that's not good. If you shoot someone again I will be mad at you, so mad I would call the police and the police will come and get you and put you in jail for a long time.

Sincerely,

Destiny

Dear Gunman,

Stop shooting because you wouldn't like it if your father or mother got shot. That wouldn't make you happy.

Amani Tucker

Dear Mr. Gunman,

I am not proud of what you are doing. Do not take away other people's lives! It's not fair that you took my friend's daddy. You took a teacher's husband away… Did you know that? You do not have a right to kill people. One day someone might take away your life.

You need to understand that your actions are not good and that they can affect people. If you kill someone and a child is standing there, he may feel that it is OK to do the same thing and it will just keep going on and on. If you keep doing it (shooting) you may end up affecting you and your children.

Yours sincerely,

Udori

Dear Mr. Gunmen,

If you keep shooting, there won't be peace. Before you came along there was peace in Bermuda. You are crushing people's lives. Please stop the SHOOTING!!!

I am begging!

Signed, Lejae

Dear Gunman,

You should stop right away; don't keep shooting. I say "STOP!" because it is affecting everyone. A gunman shot three of my godpas. The gunman made me sad to lose someone really, really close to me. Kerry's daddy used to give us lots, and lots of candy.

Sincerely, NeJai
