l Damon Broadbelt: "The story in the paper this morning is very disturbing to me. How can these Uighurs find jobs so damn fast and me, as a born Bermudian, cannot find a job in my own Island? And then election time they smile in our face. No more of your lies, I'm done with them."
• Anonymous: "The audacity of the Premier to voice to the people of Bermuda how proud he is in providing work for the Uighurs and here I am, six months without unemployment, and on top of that there's no unemployment benefits or insurance."
• Bev Tatem: "I have a Bermudian friend who has been out of work for a few months and is actively seeking employment. Maybe the Government can help her find a job too! I guess there will always be certain rules for certain people."
• Donna Foggo: "I am happy that employment was found for these men and I am equally overjoyed when employment is found for locals. I think everyone that wants to work should get a chance to. These men were bought here and they should be given a chance to contribute while they are here. We cannot blame them for ending up on our shores and, as humans, we should be happy that they have a chance to live a normal life."
• Angela Kerr: "There are so many Bermudians unemployed — some made redundant. Did those two Ministers do a survey to find out how many Bermudians are unemployed and try to get them back into work?"
• Adam Diel: "I hope that should I require a job, as a born Bermudian, that the Ministers would work diligently to secure me a job. Of course, I am sure that nothing could be further from the truth."
• Walter Burgess: "Wow, I would like to share my comments. But given their negative context, I seriously feel that unwanted action would be directed at me. Such as having my Bermuda citizenship revoked or having arrangements to have my employment terminated. Hold on, what am I thinking — I'm a 'son of the soil' (whatever that stands for in Bermuda today) and I've been unemployed for seven months, with little prospect of gaining employment after 16 applications and two interviews. I guess either way I'm in a lose-lose position."
• LuAnne Brown: "I work at Tucker's Point management and to hear people asking for any jobs that are available is very sad. We have Bermudians knocking on doors trying to get employment. I have a daughter that is seeking work and she has been to the Government on many occasions and was told that there is no work available and yet the Government had been 'diligently working' to find employment for the former Guantánamo Bay prisoners. What next?"
