Security guard testifies in Hill murder trial
A security guard has told a jury how he spotted four teenagers hiding in the bushes at Coral Beach on the night of Kellon Hill's murder.
Everton Webson, a security guard at Coral Beach and Tennis Club, spotted the teenagers as he arrived at work at midnight on August 9, 2008.
The prosecution say Kellan Lewis, 18, was among the group which ran along Elbow Beach to Coral Beach on the night of the murder.
Mr. Hill died from a stab wound to the heart after trying to retrieve a gold chain which Kellan Lewis allegedly snatched from around his neck.
The incident took place in the public access road to Elbow Beach as Mr. Hill was leaving a party around 11 p.m.
Lewis, 18, denies murder and being in possession of a knife.
The prosecution say Mr. Hill was set upon by a gang, which included Lewis, Gary Hollis, 16, Zharrin Simmons, 17, Devon Hairston, 18, and Kevin Warner, 19.
Hill was attacked with a cane, motorcycle helmets and a knife. The prosecution say he was also stabbed with a screwdriver, but that the post-mortem showed the fatal wound was caused by a knife.
Yesterday the court heard evidence from Mr. Webson who said he saw two teenagers sitting on a grassy bank as he drove in the main entrance at Coral Beach.
He said one was on a cell phone.
After clocking in at the clubhouse he called another security guard and they went back to the entrance in a golf cart.
As the men approached, they saw three teenagers run off into the trees.
Mr. Webson told Supreme Court: "I said, 'I'm not going to call the Police. I just want you to get off the property'. And four of them came out of the bushes.
"They were very polite and said, 'Sorry'. One of them then asked me for a (flash) light. They said they dropped something, so could they borrow the light so they could look for it.
"One went into the trees with one of the other guys, looking for something for about five minutes."
Mr. Webson said as they returned the flashlight to him, one of them wiped his shirt on the flashlight and he made a joke about it.
"I said, 'They can still get your DNA'. It seemed sort of strange," he said.
The security guard said the four men then left Coral Beach, heading west on South Road.
Later he found a sock on the grass and reported it to Police officers after hearing about the murder.
The court also heard from Michelle Perinchief yesterday, a civilian Forensics Support Unit officer who gathered DNA samples from Mr. Hill and the suspects.
The jury were also shown a black-handled knife found under the bushes at Coral Beach and a broken cane and a screwdriver, found in the public access road to Elbow Beach.
The trial continues.
