Six men charged with Hamilton Parish mob attack
Six men were remanded in custody yesterday for allegedly participating in a mob attack on a 22-year-old Hamilton Parish man.
The men, all in their twenties, were not required to enter pleas in Magistrates' Court as their charges are indictable, therefore triable in Supreme Court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Damon Darrell, 23-year-old Bennett Phipps, 22-year-old Allan Douglas and 24-year-old Kaiwan Trott and 23-year old Detroy Smith, all of St. George's, appeared before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
Their co-defendant 28-year-old Kyle Tannock Williams of Spice Hill Road, Warwick did not appear yesterday but was represented in his absence by attorney Victoria Pearman, who also represented Smith.
Attorney Charles Richardson, represented Douglas and Trott. Darrell and Phipps are both in the process of seeking counsel,
The men were charged with wilful and unlawful damage and intent to do bodily harm in a mob attack on Tamesgan Furbert.
The six are also charged with being armed "in such a manner to cause terror" in this case, variously with machetes and baseball bats. Included in the list of weapons the defendants allegedly used in this attack, according to Crown counsel Larissa Burgess, was a battery-operated drill.
The men will remain in custody until their next court appearance on June 12.
